Little bit done today..

The luan (I still don't know how to spell that--Kyle says this is right but the spell checker is flagging it--so who knows) was installed today and they will be back TUESDAY to install the vinyl. We're a little miffed because apparently, if you get anything on the luan the vinyl won't adhere to it. Ok, I have 2 kids and 2 animals and we can't eat out every meal from today thru Wednesday! They told us to just do what we need to and if anything gets on it they will sand it out. UGH! I don't know why they just didn't wait until Tuesday. so stupid.

Mark worked a little more on the deck and will be back Monday with John (a different John) to do more on the deck.

Bathroom--DONE! (and other stuff)

OK..I can say the bathroom is officially done. They installed the faucet today and there is nothing else for them to do in there. It's very plain since there are no towel racks etc--but that will come in time. :-)

BEFORE:

AFTER:

The kitchen linoleum was removed today, the hole in the wall behind the refrigerator was dry-walled, the floor under the refrigerator was replaced with new sub-flooring, and the sink and new faucet were installed!

Hole behind fridge: Linoleum Removed:
New Sink

The Deck was all torn out (the are keeping all the floor joists etc--so it was just the top layer deck boards removed) and the new posts were cemented in.between those 2 posts is where the new steps will be!

All basement windows were removed and new glass block windows were put in--they are SO pretty. I didn't get a before picture of the windows and I wish I had.

This window was originally behind paneling--actually the whole room was paneled. Kyle removed all of that before the work started.

The cracks in basement walls were filled and the walls were all painted with "dry-lock". I can't believe the difference in having white walls down there!!!

Tomorrow, they will lay the luan (?) whatever it is..it's the floor they lay before they lay the vinyl. They will work more on the deck and I think they need to finish up the walls in the basement.

Moving right along...

The bathroom is now painted. The faucet needs to be installed in the bathroom sink--not sure what they are waiting for. But it's all done except for that. I ordered a shower curtain from Ebay and I need to get towel rods etc. and a new vanity light... But all the "core" items are there..except for the faucet. I REALLY wanna brush my teeth in the bathroom!!
Mark installed a new hot water heater--it's so pretty..the old one was all rusted and corroded and the one valve leaked.

They took off the deck rails and I am LOVING the clear view from my back door to the back yard. I asked Mark if we could move the stairs from the side of the deck to the front so I could keep that area open--he said that's no problem!!

Tomorrow, they will start tearing out the kitchen floor, tearing out the rest of the deck, tearing out basement windows and installing new glass block windows, and hopefully, install the bathroom faucet!!

Slowly but surely.....

The bathroom got drywalled today. In addition, the base of the sink was installed. The paneling was all primed and painted and the spigot water thingy was installed--and it doesn't leak into the basement!!

Mark installed and hardwired all the smoke detectors--1 in the basement, 1 in each bedroom and 1 in the hall. I didn't take pictures of them though---you'll have to imagine what they look like.

Tomorrow will be sanding the mud on the bathroom walls--and then remudding them. I REALLY REALLY hope the bathroom gets done soon..it's makin me nuts!!

Tubby Tub Tub

Doug and John got the bathtub and shower surround installed..the plumbing all connected and the shower head and water turn-on knobby thing installed.

(I guess I didn't get a picture of the shower surround--oh well--too lazy to do it now!)

Turns out that the room is a little bigger than the tub is long, so they had to build the wall up behind the one side of the shower and will have to drywall that whole wall so it matches up.

They put the water spigot faucet thing on the tub and when they turned on the water it leaked horribly into the basement. So, they took it off...re-glued something and said they will try it again on Monday once the glue has had time to set up. They said we can take a bath over the weekend but have to be careful because the water will shoot straight out of the pipe.

They sprayed Kilz primer on the paneling--and got some on my new floor--they swear WD-40 will take it up--it better!!

Mark finished wiring the outlets for the front and back of the house and then went to order the vinyl flooring for the Kitchen--it will be in Wednesday.

Everyone left around 4 for the weekend.

No showers for us this weekend. Sink baths and Sink hair washing are getting old really fast. At least I have a toilet though..so I won't complain TOO much!!

Bathroom Floor and a new Back door!

Doug and John (I learned his name--yay me!!) installed the new vinyl in the bathroom this morning. It has to dry for several hours so the bathroom was out of commission all day and of course that means, no other work got done in there. I did walk to the threshold and peer in and stare at the new floor a few times. I'm not sure I am in LOVE with it like I was the original floor. Of course once the tub, sink, toilet, etc are in...we'll only be able to see about 4 inches of it!! ;-)

While the floor was drying, Doug and John installed a new back door and storm door. I LOVE them!!

Out with the old:

Pretty new doors:

Tomorrow the tub and toilet will go in. I am HOPING I will be able to shower or take a nice long bath this weekend.

Siding--After Pictures

It's all done!! Shutters up, gutters installed!! It looks so pretty!! We have gotten quite a few compliments from the neighbors. Here's the pictures:

Siding Done--bathroom--not so much!

I called the flooring place first thing this morning and they DID have the floor we wanted in stock. YAY. They were having someone drive to Mason to pick it up from the warehouse and would be ready later in the afternoon.

In the meantime, Doug and his helper (don't know his name) finished tearing up the bathroom and laid the new subfloor.
Since the vinyl flooring wasn't here yet..they will come back in the morning to install it. While it is drying they will install the new back door and storm door!

Mark went to Lowe's and got all of our "stuff"--sink, faucet, bathtub faucet, back door, screen door, bath tub, etc.

The siding is done! They are coming back tomorrow to finish some little things--reinstall my porch gate, hang the shutters, etc. I'll take a picture once that is all done!!

Little More Siding and a Little Bathroom Too

First--HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLE!!!

At 8 am Doug (the bathroom guy) knocked on the door ready to start.

Bathroom Before (I actually forgot to take a before pic..this one is from a few years ago..but it hasn't changed.)

They started the demo and then came to a stand still..needing plywood for the floor. So they left to come back tomorrow. When that will be here and HOPEFULLY the vinyl floor.

Oh...the vinyl floor!! I found out I had to have the vinyl floor by tomorrow--Mark was supposed to order it..but it's not going to be here by tomorrow. I guess his intention was to get everything else done in the bathroom and then lay the floor...the inspector had other ideas and said the vinyl actually has to be laid under the tub to prevent any water seeping into the seam where the tub and vinyl would meet.

Luckily, I have the best boss EVER and she told me to leave early and go look for something that I wouldn't hate while I washed it. So..I made a list of places to go and headed out. I drove all over the city of Dayton and the LAST place on my list had something I can live with...it isn't the perfect one I had originally found..but it will do. I have to call in the morning to make SURE their warehouse has it in stock.

The siding is moving right along. I bet it will be done tomorrow...Thursday at the latest. I LOVE it!!

Next? Siding!

I took the kids to school this morning and when I got home, Mark (the contractor) was here. He said the guys doing the siding would be here any minute and he was coming in to drill some holes for the electric he was running to the front porch and back deck.

The siding people arrived and they started removing the old siding.
I didn't even know that white trim stuff was under the old siding--I like it. Kyle says he thinks it's ugly. Oh well...it's getting covered back up anyway!

It seemed like in no time at all, the old siding was down and the house was bare. I told Kyle we should keep it like this!!

Before the day was done they had the first pieces of new siding up. I can't believe how fast these guys move (all guys on the siding crew ;)). The siding should be DONE in the next few days!!
